This is a link to the main information site. The William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow (the house where he was born), is threatened with closure, or at least with greatly reduced opening hours and accessibility.

A protest is planned for MayDay....

The garden today

appleblossom

Back from Italy at the weekend. The garden (terrace, plants in pots and containers) has done well in my absence...the mini-apple tree in a pot has some lovely blossom on it!

The red and yellow striped tulips are also doing well.

I was sorry to leave Italy, but then I have the garden in London to look after as well!

The shower

The plumber came today to install the shower!!!

I am SO HAPPY!!!

Our garden in Italy

wisteria

The holiday worked out really well in the end!
The wisteria in our garden is really flourishing....I planted some herbs - thyme, lavender, sage and mint, which should survive in the warmer Mediterranean climate until we go back in the summer. We already have lots and lots of Rosemary
....

And a friend gave us some grapefruits from his orto (kitchen garden). I squeezed them to make grapefruit juice, and it was the best grapefruit juice I'd ever tasted!

Holiday continued

by leonora @ 10/04/07 - 10:13:52

Now it's so much better! FOUND THE PASSPORT!!! (a bit embarrassing having to apologise to the police this morning, but still........)

Yesterday went to VINCI...the birthplace of Leonardo. The museum contains models of his designs (including a bicycle, but it was all of wood, so would have been rather uncomfortable to ride!) For me the most interesting was that he had designed lots of machines for spinning and weaving, which were never put into production, and were 're-invented' in England at the end of the 18th. century, starting the Industrial Revolution.
Best of all....in the entire town of Vinci, there are NO references to The Da Vinci Code!!! (Just now I was trying to find a graphic to put in this entry, but all the graphics I could find ARE of The Da Vinci code!!)

My holiday so far

by leonora @ 05/04/07 - 10:48:13

I'm in Italy, at our house near Livorno...so far it hasn't been too wonderful.
(a) The boiler is knackered, and it is FREEZING!!!
(b) I have LOST MY PASSPORT!!!!

The last is more of an inconvenience than anything else....I can't work out where and when Ican have lost it - I definitely had it in my hand when we got on the plane at Milan, but since then...may have dropped it in Pisa airport, or anywhere on the way from Pisa to Livorno....
Have to go to the Consulate in Florence to get a new one, which can't be done until Tuesday, since this is a Bank Holiday weekend....

Not a very good start to a holiday!
