An obituary from the Guardian. Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, one of the most renowned sopranos of the immediate post-war generation, has died at the age of 90.
I started this as an opera blog, but I realised that there are other topics I want to write about, so it has expanded to include my other interests!!

I hadn't looked at my Guardian yet. Not a great surpise, although every voice that dies robs me of a little bit of my past.
Did you see the old film of Rosenkalavier? I remember seeing it with my Paw and embarrassing him but bursting into tears while the trio was going on.
She also did a series of master classes in the Wigmore Hall which presented her in a rather unfavourable light - too much of an ego trip for teacher. Not an easy thing to stage unless the teacher is genuinely more interested in the pupil's voice than their own aggrandissment (That's a hard word if you're slightly dyslexic!)
I envy you thomas hampson, - but not the autograph - haven't asked for one of those since Fischer-Dieskau in Salzburg about 30 years ago.
Now everything I hear is broadcast, since we live in the back of beyond. It's not the same, but it's the best I can do in my dotage
