I note the avid fascination with which you have all been following this!
nevertheless, I feel it incumbent upon me to mention that I did gain 278 votes in my ward (Belsize) and that we now have 2 Green Councillors in Highgate Ward!
And there are SIX Green councillors in Lewisham

Yes, this is true...we always try to do this, but the battle for hearts and minds is very far from being won. We try to show how concern for the environment affects every aspect of our lives - that it's not "just" things like the rainforest and global warming, but smaller local issues like preserving the variety of local shops - and the environment is urban as well as rural.

This site has gone a bit crazy, it took 3 tries to comment here, I kept being taken to a teen blog site!
My sister has been active in the green party in Oz where she lives. I think what puts people off is fear that the economy may suffer rather than being against the green party. When it comes down to it, many people still drive petrol guzzling cars etc and create pollution like spoilt children even though they know it's bad for the environment. I think the Green party will have to step up awareness of other issues and how it will deal with them and not just the environment to get the votes.
